You can take the all-day route, or the half-sized route that takes about 3-4 hours. With small children, you’ll want to stick to the shorter cruise, but older kids may want their own canoe and to try for the longer, more challenging route.

This is a perfect way to introduce your family to canoeing, as there are no rapids, no extraordinary danger, and the Big Darby winds through populated areas, so that if you DO get stuck or have a need, help is just a cellular call or a shout away.

Trapper John’s does have a tiny store with snacks and supplies available for purchase, as well as clean restrooms. Call ahead to reserve space for larger parties, and to check on the river level and boat availability.
