May 4th was an exhilarating morning to help The Furniture Bank of Central Ohio with the 4th Annual Bed Race! This fundraiser is an incredible family-friendly event that helps bring together so many folks from the central Ohio community for a great cause, turning an empty house into a home!
The Bed Race teams really stepped up their game this year with lots of creative costumes and bed décor creating lots of anticipation and energy on race day!
Tupelo Food Truck and the Broke Johnny Food Truck were set up along the spectator area, next to the Kids Zone which sponsored by us!
Children were invited to ride Big Wheels and set up under the big white tent were Face Painters, Balloon Artists, and Caricature Artists. Families of all ages enjoyed the fun. Treats and trinkets from bouncy balls to slap bracelets were gifted to the children and smiles were bountiful!
Celebrity judges included Trisha Moore from Sunny 95 Radio and our own, Sue Lusk-Gleich. The judges helped award prizes for Best Costume and Best Bed. The team who created a Millennium Falcon replete with Chewbacca and a team of Storm Troopers won the Best Bed Award.
Best Costume went to the Wizard of Oz inspired team from Sauder.
2019 Bed Race Results!
NBC4i, Big Lots and so many great local organizations showed their support for the mission of The Furniture Bank by participating in the Bed Race this year.
With lots of energy and enthusiasm, these REALTOR racers won 2 out of 3 heats and helped raise lots of money to assist the Furniture Bank in their mission to help Central Ohio families who are struggling with challenges of house fires, homelessness, unemployment, domestic violence, immigration, disabilities or relocation. The event helped raise over $26,000 to help local families in need and The Columbus Team was thrilled to be able to participate.
Special thanks to honorary Lieutenant Maverick Cooper Florence who was the official team bed rider and racers Sue Lusk-Gleich, Patrick Florence, Danielle Wright and Koretta Tennant.
The Columbus Team is going to race a bed…yes, a BED…on May 21st as The SlumberJacks to raise money for the Furniture Bank of Central Ohio. We are helping our neighbors in need to make a house a home! Can you donate to a great cause?
The Furniture Bank of Central Ohio provides free furniture to local families who are struggling with poverty and difficult circumstances. They collect furniture donations and build furniture for people living in bare or barely furnished housing. In 2015, the FBOC served almost 4,000 families by giving them what they needed to create a safety and comfort in hard times.
Please donate, and come out and see us race our bed to the finish line on May 21, at 10am in Goodale Park! Join us in having fun while helping others.
Visit the Team Slumberjack page to donate online by clicking the “Donate Now” button on the right hand side, or drop a donation at our office. Any donation is greatly appreciated. $250 can provide a struggling family with enough furniture to create a home, we hope to raise enough money to help 2 or more families. Can you join us by making a donation? Every donation will help The Columbus Team “Slumberjacks” and the Furniture Bank of Central Ohio turn empty spaces into homes.
