Welcome home to Gahanna, Ohio!

Gahanna History

Gahanna was founded in 1849 as the Gahanna Plantation, owned by John Clark. Named after an Indian word meaning the place where 3 streams join as one, it is located 9 miles northeast of Columbus on the banks of Big Walnut Creek. It quickly became a thriving little town and was re-named Gahanna, incorporated in 1881, and hasn’t stopped growing since!

Named one of America’s best hometowns by Ohio Magazine in 2013, Gahanna is justly proud of their focus on greenspace. Gahanna offers 49 green spaces of which 12 are parks, including a dog park, herb garden, and a skate park. The public herb garden inspired many private versions, leading to Gahanna being named the Herb Capital of Ohio. They’re also proud of their status as a great hometown, and place value on their small-town feel, despite an ever-increasing census of 33,000+ citizens.
