Gahanna, Ohio

Gahanna Ohio by Chris Griffin

Welcome home to Gahanna, Ohio!

Gahanna was founded in 1849 as the Gahanna Plantation, owned by John Clark. Named after an Indian word meaning the place where 3 streams join as one, it is located 9 miles northeast of Columbus on the banks of Big Walnut Creek. It quickly became a thriving little town and was re-named Gahanna, incorporated in 1881, and hasn’t stopped growing since!

Named one of America’s best hometowns by Ohio Magazine in 2013, Gahanna is justly proud of their focus on greenspace. Gahanna offers 49 green spaces of which 12 are parks, including a dog park, herb garden, and a skate park. The public herb garden inspired many private versions, leading to Gahanna being named the Herb Capital of Ohio. They’re also proud of their status as a great hometown, and place value on their small-town feel, despite an ever-increasing census of 33,000+ citizens.

The Creekside Park and Plaza offers shopping, dining, and recreation space in one compact area. The historic downtown area has been lovingly refurbished and offers additional fun and interesting shops and restaurants. The town also hosts Herb Day, the Creekside Blues & Jazz Festival, Taste of Gahanna, and the Winter Wonderland holiday lighting festival in, or near the parks.

Close to many big city amenities, Gahanna is just minutes away from Easton Town Center for some of the Midwest’s best shopping and dining options. John Glenn Columbus International Airport links Gahanna residents to travel around the world, and a few miles away are all the arts and culture of a state capital.

Gahanna Jefferson Public Schools are known for diverse programming with 250 high school courses, 40 extra-curriculars, and 40 varsity sports. The district serves around 7,900 students in 11 schools. If you want to see the Ohio School Report Card for the district or individual school, check the ODE website for current and past years’ results.

From tree-lined streets and family neighborhoods, to downtown condos close to the water, Gahanna has a nice variety of neighborhoods to suit anyone’s tastes. The average home sales price is $210,000 with a lively real estate market.
