Columbus Zoo: Talk to the animals…and touch them too!

July 11, 2013 by The Columbus Team

60 Days of Summer Columbus OH Fun Activities To Do

Our Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is consistently one of the top rated zoos in the U.S., as it has so many interactive exhibits for kids and adults. You can pet a stingray at the Stingray Bay touch tank, feed the birds at the Lorikeet Garden, stroke an animal at the Animal Encounters Village, watch the Animals on Safari live show, get up close and personal at the My Barn domestic creature interactive space, and gently stroke starfish, conch, and other marine beasties in the Tidepool Touch Tank…the zoo has a ton of ways you can touch and interact with these special animals.

Powell OH Columbus Zoo Polar BearsKnown for endangered species preservation, the Zoo has some amazing and unusual animals in addition to the standard lions, tigers, and bears. You’ll find rare and endangered species like manatees, white tigers, silverback gorillas, and more; and stories of rescues, babies, and habitat preservations, too.

From adults looking to expand their understanding of global ecological issues, to the smallest tot learning the name of the animals in the world she is exploring, there is a ton of fun learning to do at our very special zoo. Every exhibit space has information on the habitat, feeding, habits, and preferences of each species displayed, and even information on how humans impact the species as a whole.

Splish-splashy fun that lasts all day at Powell Splash Pad

July 5, 2013 by The Columbus Team

60 Days of Summer Columbus OH Fun Activities To Do

When you pull up to the parking at the city offices here, you’re never sure you’re in the right place, but never fear, splashy fun is right around the curve, literally!

Take the paved path past the pond and the outdoor amphitheater which offers free concerts and event throughout the summer, and you’ll find a squirty, splish-splashy children’s paradise. Small but mighty fun, there are splash pad activities for large and small, and a playground in which to enjoy the sun right across the path.

Even leashed pets are not a good idea here, as so many tiny children scream and run back and forth between the two play areas…the mellowest pet could be stressed in this environment.

With free parking, and two adjacent play areas, one wet and one dry, there’s enough here to keep your little ones busy, cool, and happy for hours. Never enough seating, bring a blanket to relax upon while you watch the kids, and haul a picnic along…they won’t want to ever come home!

Walking distance to various eateries, antique shops, and ice cream/italian ice, you could easily spend an afternoon a week here for the whole summer.

Definitely a summer sweet spot, mark this one on the GPS and make it a kid-friendly regular!

Come see their tree house, slide down their slides, and bring your dollies three! The Recreations Outlet in Powell sells gorgeous wooden play sets for kids of all ages, and is a perfect free place to take the kids on a rainy summer morning. Well, almost free. For $2 per family, your kids can play from 9am-11am on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings.

Slides and swings in Powell OH

Check out the beautifully made play equipment, try the swings and playset accessories you’ve thought about adding to your own play set, and just enjoy the fun…all for a price you could probably swing with just the change in your car or couch cushions!

The best part? The play fee these mornings goes to charity!

If the charitable playtime doesn’t work for your schedule, there are pay-to-play times available for $6-8 per child for two hours of play.
